Hello Parents and Students,
Whether you are joining me in class or remotely, welcome to an exciting year of fifth grade! My name is Rachel Cortell, and I teach English Language Arts. This will be my second year at RJ Richey Elementary, and I am very eager to get to know you and your child.
To share a little bit about me, I grew up in West Virginia and have lived in Illinois and Indiana before making Texas my home for the last 23 years. I attended Purdue University in Indiana, however I completed my Bachelor's Degree from Texas State University. I am the proud mom of twin boys who will be in eighth grade this year. My family has two adorable cats named Macey and Spade, and they, too, are twins! My hobbies include cheering on my boys in their various sports and musical activities, running, photography, enjoying the water (lake or beach), cooking, travel, and of course...reading!
I am passionate about helping my students discover their potential so that they can become the best versions of themselves. It is my goal to provide a safe learning environment that inspires curiosity, values parental involvement, and respects individual differences. This is going to be a great year, and I am looking forward to working with you and your child!
