Paula van Klavern

Howdy, parents!

WOW! 3 weeks have gone by already!  It has been awesome seeing students do an amazing job of learning in our classroom and campus-wide expectations, routines, and procedures!  I will update this page every month.

Friday Bulldog Folders: Parents, please take out all classwork / papers from Friday folders and have your student return the folder on Monday.  If there are any graded papers with a grade BELOW 70%, students are encouraged to make corrections and can earn up to a 70%.  They must return it corrected in a different color by on Monday.

SnacksStudents will have snack from 2:00pm-2:15pm. Students may bring 1small snack; NO large bags or candy please.  IF you are able, you may donate snacks for the class for students who are unable to bring their own snacks.

Water Bottles:  PLEASE have your child bring a water bottle to school every day, especially now when it is so hot outside.

Homework: Homework will consist of reading for 15 minutes nightly and 15 minutes of studying math facts.   I will also send home a weekly Math HW page on Monday.  Students who complete it and return it to me on Friday will be rewarded with 10 tickets (to be used to buy prizes from our Treasure Chest during Fun / Free time Friday), 2 free prizes from the Treasure chest, and lunch with me in the classroom on Friday. Students will NOT be penalized if they do not do the HW.

Good Choices: Tickets will be given to students for good behavior, following classroom AND school-wide expectations, reading, completing all daily / weekly assignments, and compliments from other staff members.  These tickets can be used to "purchase" small prizes from my Classroom Treasure Chest on Fridays during Fun / Free Friday.  "GLOW Notes will also be sent home in binders / planners.

Poor Choices: Students are given 3 verbal warnings regarding their behavior choices; on the 4th warning, recess walking for up to 10 minutes will be given.  If behaviors continue, a parent email or phone call will occur.  "GROW  Notes will also be sent home in binders / planners for parents to sign and return.

Absences:  Please remember if your student is absent, he / she is given 1 day per day missed to complete any work missed while they were absent.  I will put absent students' missed work in a folder for them upon their return w/ detailed instructions for completion.

Absences: Also, if your child is going to be absent for more than 3 days (illness, surgery, vacation, family emergency, etc), please email me to let me know so I can get the classwork  (from both Ms. Detwiler and I) that will be missed.

Classwork: Students who do not finish classwork in class may be required to work on  / complete it during recess.  According to campus guidelines, the whole recess can be used to complete classwork.

Scholastic and Arrow Book Club Book Orders:  Every month starting in September,  I will be sending home Scholastic and Arrow book club flyers which you can order books for your child.  You can order online; make sure you order under my full name (Paula van Klavern).
