Fine Arts at Its Finest - RJ Richey Elementary School

RJ Richey Elementary School offers a unique opportunity for the integration of art and music within a single classroom setting. The conjoining of art and music in school allows students to engage in and build connections within a variety of art forms. In a setting such as this, our focus is to facilitate "artistic behavior". "Artistic behavior" forms a disposition within students - a disposition governed by creative thinking/higher order thinking skills, process, imagination, choice, exploration, and communication. Equipped with a pattern of artistic behaviors and thinking processes, students will flourish beyond the elementary fine arts room as they step into other areas of their lives.
Getting to Know Me

I graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, a minor in Music, a supplemental certification in teaching English as a Second Language, and a certification in the Science of Teaching Reading. I utilized the initial half of my time at Baylor University by studying Choral Music Education, and I possess the TExES Music EC-12 certification for teaching music. While my background is primarily in Music, I have acquired additional experience in Art, Theater, and Dance. I look forward to incorporating a variety of the arts into your child's education. As a significant portion of my education is related to general education, I understand the importance of helping students to draw connections between the core subject areas and co-curricular subject areas. I would like to stay apprised of the students' outside demands and units of study within the core subjects. Thereby, we will be able to align our learning in the Fine Arts room with learning outside of the Fine Arts room whenever possible! My hope is to support students in building connections between Fine Arts and daily life, both inside and outside of the school setting.
A Few of My Favorite Things

One of my passions in the visual arts is making and decorating baked goods. In addition to baking, I enjoy running, painting, decorating, singing, writing, and gardening. A few of my favorite things are sprinkles, lavender, strawberries, and peanut butter. My favorite author is Jane Austen, and my favorite flower is the poppy. I love the color turquoise!

I look forward to becoming better acquainted with you. Please do not hesitate to reach out and/or introduce yourself to me, as well as share with me a few of your favorite things!
