Ellen Ballew
I retired after 37 years of teaching in May of 2023. I worked for Alief Independent School District for 21 years and in that time, I was a classroom teacher for 3rd and 4th grade, self-contained and math/science. I then moved into a math/technology specialist position which was very rewarding as well. I was able to continue working with students and modeling math for teachers, giving professional development at the district and staff level, working closely with administration focusing on goals for the students and staff, implementing new math techniques while keeping everyone up to date on the everchanging technology.
My children were in Fort Bend Independent School District so to get closer to home I interviewed for a math specialist position there. I moved to Fort Bend and finished my last 16 years doing what I love, teaching math to students and staff. Last year, I couldn't stay away and was asked to be an Associate Teacher Coach for 6 teachers who were in the process of getting their teaching degree as alternative certified teachers. I again was able to work with the teachers and students in grades 1-4, all subjects.
My Role as a Bulldog at RJ Richey:
I will be a part-time math interventionist and am excited to have the opportunity to continue working with students and teachers. I will be able to work with students building self-esteem and skills in mathematics. I am very passionate about math and enjoy watching the students grapple with math concepts, use manipulatives, challenge themselves but more importantly get a greater understanding of skills and concepts that will sustain them through life.
